Parenting programs are great resources based in local, community organizations. They can help families whose children are at-risk for abuse and neglect. Parent classes strengthen parenting skills, help parents with stress management, and provide information on healthy child development. Some programs offer home visiting, where a family specialist can come to your home and offer coaching and support on a monthly basis. Many of the organizations also provide more intensive services, tailored to each family, that address other struggles, such as drug and alcohol abuse, poverty, or homelessness.
Every parent could use a hand. If you know of a family member or friend that could use some parenting support, or if you need support yourself, check out our Statewide Parenting Programs Contact List to find a program in your area. The programs are founded and run by local community members, so the programs are tailored to each family’s needs.
