Mt Emily, a child abuse assessment center, will expand prevention services by offering the “Make Parenting a Pleasure” (MPP) skills training program to at-risk parents in La Grande and surrounding communities. MPP is a promising practice parenting curricula offered in weekly, group-based settings that strengthens parenting skills and reduces abuse risk factors in participating families with young children. Project will also offer “Incredible Infants” to pregnant/parenting teens in the local high school.

Growing the Positive Parenting Project in Curry County - Curry County

Southwestern Oregon Community College,

In partnership with local elementary schools, parent educators will offer best practice parenting curricula to families/caregivers in larger communities of Curry County, i.e. Port Orford and Brookings. This project is an extension of services offered by the Family Center of Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos County with the goal of developing communities where parents have the internal resources and knowledge they need and the external services to support them in positive parenting.

Impact NW Early Childhood Fathering Project - Multnomah County

Impact NW,

The goal of this program is to promote child well-being and prevent child abuse by offering parent education, father-child interaction, and support to fathers with children 0 to 5 years of age. The program aims to promote father involvement and create a community of support for fathers marginalized by poverty and cultural/ linguistic isolation. The program uses volunteer fathers to facilitate weekly groups for the participants.

Project will offer the research-based curricula “Strengthening Families” to at-risk families in Jackson County with children 6-14 years of age. Parents learn age-appropriate child development expectations, positive parenting practices, and effective, age-appropriate disciplinary practices. Children, through integrated education groups, learn social skills, conflict resolution, impulse control and avoidance of negative peer pressure.

Camp Fire USA, Mt Hood Council,

Intensive home visitation and parenting classes/groups are offered to pregnant and parenting parents who reside in Clackamas County. Referral to health care, housing, education, mental health and substance abuse treatment is available. Grant funds support prenatal education, outreach work to teens and first-time fathers, and extend Spanish language curriculum. “Brown bag” lunch presentations will offer community members the availability of parenting courses and the Family Education and Support Network website.

Strengthening Families & Preventing Child Maltreatment - Multnomah County

Morrison Child & Family Services/Parents Anonymous,

Parents Anonymous project will target parents reunifying with children during or following substance abuse treatment or involvement with child welfare or the criminal justice system. Project seeks to prevent future child abuse and neglect by enhancing parenting skills, child development information, improving confidence and learning Parents Anonymous stress management skills. Services include weekly parent support groups, nurturing children’s programs, parent leadership training and a parent support hotline. Services are offered at the Volunteers of America Residential Treatment Facility and in the Rockwood area. Parent leadership skills will be emphasized to help build skills for re-entry into the community.

Yachats Youth and Family,

Center serves as a family resource center for families of the Yachats area, including south Lincoln County and north Lane County. Center offerings include structured family nights social activities, an early childhood cooperative program for parents and children 0-6 years, parenting classes, family support casework, presentations of interest to parent(s) and monthly mothers support group for isolated parents. In addition, after school, teen-oriented programs and recreation activities are offered to children and youth in the community.
